Lunch with Tawnia

It's always nice to have some time with Tawnia when it's just us. I can bitch to her about female issues, hormonal imbalances in myself and others, I can be a total and complete jerk to random people and can just freak out for no reason at anyone who happens to come up in conversation.

So it's good we schedule these lunches where we can talk about what's going on in each others' lives and keep up with each other.

I love her to death, and she keeps me insane! YAY TAWNIA!

Christmas Adam Dinner

We had a great dinner of nachos! Jenelle made coconut cream pie for tomorrow and Christmas, and Pat made more fudge. It was an awesome evening.

Really looking forward to spending a Christmas with family. If Pat doesn't hit the TV with a plastic guitar while trying to get through expert mode on Guitar Hero! WOOPS!

It's Christmas Adam!

Okay, so I really thought Christmas Adam (day before Christmas Eve, since Adam came first....ha ha) was the lamest thing Pat had ever told me about, but now I can't help saying it to everyone!

Why not extend the Christmas day celebration by making just one more day special?

Today I'm making pinto beans in the slow cooker for a nacho dinner tonight!

The Pinto Beans:
2 lb's pintos washed and drained (NOT SOAKED!)
1 small sweet onion cut up any which way
garlic powder (I'm out of regular garlic...makes me a saaaaaaaaaad panda!)
2 smoked pork neck bones which were quickly blanched to get the really strong smoke taste off
4 slices of bacon cut into one inch strips

The plan:
Place everything in the slow cooker and fill with water up to about an inch or two from the top (it's really full lol).
Turn on low and leave until around 5:00 (7 and a half hours)
Mash some up for Pat
Make the other stuff for nachos!

The nacho ingredients:

Fresh pinto beans that will be re-fried for the more gringo in the house (Pat)
Cheddar Cheese (grated by Nathan....who doesn't know yet that he's been volunteered)
Jarred jalapenos (I'm not Martha Stewart here people)
Tortilla chips (mmm store brand chips!)
Ground beef
Low fat sour cream
Jarred salsa (see the Martha Stewart comment above)
diced olives

We'll probably head over to Red Box (Thanks to Adrian for introducing Pat to this) and spend the evening watching TV and playing games.

Merry Christmas everyone! Please stay safe! HAPPY CHRISTMAS ADAM!

X-Fire

So, as always, I still hate X-Fire. But since I have an account with EVE to attend some Christmas parties in game and to hang out with Enst mining - I figured I'd also take part in the X-Fire/EVE contest. So for now - here's my profile on X-Fire.

Internet meme's are dumb, but here goes

Oki so - here are the rules:

01. Answer each of the questions below using the [Flickr] search engine. (ETA: I've changed the URL so it will automatically search "Most Interesting" for you.)
02. Choose a photo from the first three pages.
03. Copy the URL of your favorite photos [here].
04. Then share with the world.

1. First name: Rebecca. How cool is this? She has no issue with what others are thinking or how they're viewing her. She's lost in a moment of pure and unadulterated joy and happiness. Hell yeah!

2. Favorite food: Ice Cream. mmmmm Ice cream. It's happy, it's summery, it's a beautiful thing filled with peace and great wonder for the soul!

3. Hometown: Ridgecrest. It's taken me quite a few years to finally start seeing the beauty of where I live. Now, I love it. It's so wide open and endless. It's the ocean, without water.

4. Favorite color: Grey. There are spots of grey in everything and anything around us. This is a color photo, truly. Isn't it awesome!??!

5. Celebrity crush: Viggo Mortensen. I really couldn't nail down why, to be 100% honest.

6. Favorite drink: Nothing says lay back and relax on the beach (or in a casino with a cigar) like a mojito! They're really minty, and who doesn't love mint? They're summery, and sweet, and I can't get drunk on them because of it! Win/Win!

7. Dream Holiday: Disney Cruise. How nice to be able to see wonder and magic (pun intended...sigh, no one is gonna get that, why do I bother?) around you in a place where people have purposely set out to present it (and then charge you for it)? I can't wait for a time when Pat and I can go.

8. Favorite Dessert: Ice cream and cake! Who wants the fancy dancy cakes? Just gimme something with yumminess that's quick and easy so I can enjoy it!

9. What I Want to be When I Grow Up: Happy. How weird that we spend our entire lives figuring out what we want to do and be, huh? It stands to reason that my happiness would have something to do with Disney...and this captures it quite well!

10. What I Love Most in the World: Pat. But no pic of my particular Pat came up on the search - so this was it. The road we travel down together, forever. How awesome!

11. One Word That Describes Me: Crazy! I am truly a crazy person, and nothing is more crazy fun then being delightedly hit with rain drops and not caring a damn what anyone else things. awww, sweet bliss.

12. My Blog/Livejournal Name: Tovin. I'm not sure why this one captivated me, but it did. Tovin is cool and calm and often tends to be a little brittle and shakable underneath. At least, that's what I'm sticking with!

1. dancing with faeries, 2. there's nothing better than summer, 3. Owen's Peak, 4. Loch Tay Rain, 5. Viggo on the Floor, 6. sunset mojito, 7. cruise graduates, 8. Everyone's Favorite!, 9. disneyland reflections, 10. WALK WITH ME, 11. I'm singing in the rain...Just singing in the rain...What a glorious feeling!!!I`m happy again!, 12. pirhonen.jpg

I have time again!

So it's time for lots of interesting things my friends find! First off:

The Short Awards (twitter) are now taking nominations! Nominate away (not me!!!).

Accuradio
has awesome Christmas and holiday celebration channel choices! Way better then Slacker (sorry hon!).

It's Time for "That" Talk

Pat and I, over the last few years, have had discussions pertaining to our future as a family. Mostly these discussions have been about whether or not to have kids.

Usually, when I'm not being hormonally crazy, I understand that neither of us are in the category of wanting kids. Sometimes I regret that, but I have to admit that as much as I may want to have children actually having them would probably be a mistake.

Would I be able to put aside my own wants and desires in order to put my child first without resenting them for the rest of my life? Would I be able to handle the stress and worry on both my body and mind that having a child would bring?

Feminists would like the world to believe that you can have it all! Have kids, keep your job and your husband, and be happy. I would like to call shenanigans on that one!!

Holding on to a my wonderful husband, a full time job, helping to take care of our household with him often tax my physical and mental state. Add to this having to put my body and mind through pregnancy, child care, and worry for the rest of my life and I'm simply not sure I can do it, and I certainly doubt my ability to do it well were we to have a child.

Choosing not to have a child is as big of a decision as choosing to have one. I get asked so often when Pat and I are going to have kids that it's as if there shouldn't be any reason not to have them.

I know that Pat's family will be disappointed in Pat not having kids. Unfortunately, it's something that they will have to come to terms with - if our decision to abstain (for now) remains.

Either way, the decision isn't permanent for now. But it's certainly a road we're heading further and further down.

Pearl Harbor Day

Today is Pearl Harbor Day.

First, a history lesson. In 1941 the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor in an attempt to cripple the US fleet in the Pacific. It worked. 2,402 were killed and 1,282 wounded.

This is the day we set aside to remember those who died with no warning, and no provocation.

Candles burn in my house most of the day. It's good to remember. It's important not to forget. And it's imperative to be prepared to go to war to defend yourself and your country. It's even more important to win that war, no matter the cost.
